why mir dmc exists
What started as exploratory travel became long-term operation.
MIR began operating in the Soviet Union in the 1980s, long before the region attracted serious attention from international travel planners. After the Soviet collapse, we continued working across the newly independent countries, setting up our own DMC network of on-the-ground offices. What started as exploratory travel became long-term operation. We established local offices when few foreign companies had a foothold and built the relationships over decades that we still rely on today.
MIR DMC is the B2B side of that history. We support travel planners with custom and private programs across the eight Silk Road countries we have been working in since the beginning.
the geography
The Silk Road world on both sides of the Caspian Sea.
Georgia, Armenia, and Azerbaijan anchor the South Caucasus, where the Caucasus Mountains funneled trade between the Black Sea, Persia, and the wider Mediterranean world. These are Silk Road countries. Cross the Caspian Sea and the Central Asian Stans extend east and north: Uzbekistan, with the great Silk Road cities of Samarkand, Bukhara, and Khiva; Tajikistan, where the Pamir Highway follows routes that traders and travelers crossed for centuries; Kyrgyzstan and its high mountain passes; Turkmenistan, home to Merv, once one of the largest cities on earth; Kazakhstan, where steppe routes connected the known world to China.
This was one world. MIR covers it entirely, from the South Caucasus through all five Central Asian Stans. For travel planners building programs that cross the Caspian Sea, or that position a single country within a larger historical and cultural arc, that full regional knowledge is the foundation of what we offer.
why only these eight countries
We deliberately limit our geographic scope. Depth in these countries takes years to build. Rather than expanding into new regions, we have stayed focused on The Stans and the South Caucasus, investing in the relationships and on-the-ground knowledge that make the difference in complex destinations.
Our teams work across all eight countries year-round. There are no gaps in coverage, no countries we know only from a distance.

what we bring
After four decades in this region, we bring knowledge that is not easily replicated. We know which routes work in which seasons. We know which properties have improved and which have declined. We know the specialists, scholars, and local experts worth designing a program around, and we have the relationships to bring them in.
We also know what to tell travel planners when an inquiry does not quite match the realities on the ground, and how to help them find a better solution.
who we work with
Our partners are travel planners who take their clients seriously and want a ground partner who does the same. They come to us with specific programs to build, difficult logistics to solve, or destinations they have not worked in before and want to get right.
We are not the right fit for budget travel or standardized packages. If those are your needs, there are other providers will serve them better. For everything else across the Stans and the South Caucasus, we are ready to talk.

What to expect when you bring us an inquiry for travel to The Stans and/or the South Caucasus.
01 — Our Role
We are a ground partner for custom and private travel across eight Silk Road countries. Travel planners come to us for local knowledge, practical judgment, and on-the-ground delivery. That is the job, and it is what we have been doing in this region for four decades.
02 — How We Start
Most travel planners working in The Stans and the South Caucasus for the first time, or building a program they have not tried before, bring us an inquiry and ask for recommendations. We listen to what the traveler needs, apply what we know about the destinations, and come back with a program built for that specific inquiry. We flag where the request does not match conditions on the ground and suggest alternatives.
03 — Guides and Specialists
We select guides based on subject knowledge, language, and flexibility. Beyond guides, we work with specialists in each country: archaeologists, chefs, winemakers, artists and craftspeople, and other local experts. Many of these relationships have been in place for years. They make certain introductions and access possible in ways that cannot be arranged quickly from outside the region.
04 — Managing Conditions
These are nuanced, developing regions, and therefore in flux. Road access, border procedures, hotel quality, and local logistics are all variables. We track them actively and keep current information on all eight countries. We communicate early when conditions shift and offer a clear path forward.
05 — What We Are Not the Right Fit For
Budget travel and standardized packages are not our area. If that is the request, other providers will serve it better. For custom and private travel across the Silk Road countries, from a single Stan to the full South Caucasus and Central Asia combination, we are ready to work.
